LISBON GAZETTE

Spring 2010

Lisbon park and recreation services are going to play an increasingly important role in providing Lisbon residents with family fun activities at little or no cost.  Your park system provides many healthy lifestyle opportunities for your enjoyment.  I’m proud to say that our Park Committee and staff remains committed to providing clean, safe parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, ice rinks, sled hills, cross country ski trails, hiking trails, recreational programs, and social events for the entire family to enjoy.

If you really think about it, parks benefit the town’s economy in many ways.  For example, parks provide a community with low cost recreation opportunities for our children, giving them a safe place to go after school and on weekends.  In return, this reduces the likelihood of juvenile crime in the community. Bring your family and friends out for a day of fun and adventure that will leave you feeling rejuvenated inside, but won’t lighten your wallet.

I urge all of you to come out and enjoy your parks this year.

Fall 2009

By John Greiten, Parks Director

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who enjoyed our parks this past year.  Parks enhance the quality of life we provide to our families.  The Town of Lisbon Park Staff takes great pride in preserving and maintaining this quality of life for our residents and their families.  We are committed to providing our residents with a clean and well-maintained park system that can provide people of all ages with year round recreational opportunities.

I really appreciate all of your feedback throughout the year via emails, letters, phone calls, and daily interaction.

New for 2010

1.  I would like to start up an Adopt a Planting Bed Program in a park near you.  This program is designed so any interested party could help create and/or maintain a planting bed area in a park near you.  It’s a great opportunity to teach our children about their environment and the importance of community service.  It is just another way to help children connect with their community in a positive way providing them with a sense of pride and ownership.

2.  I would like to receive comments from people who would be interested in helping create or donate money toward a dog memorial site in Lisbon Community Park.  The site would be a place with sitting areas, plantings, and walkways along with a memorial site where people could purchase a plaque or brick with the name of their pet.

3.  On Saturday February 6, 2010, from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm come out to the Lisbon Community Park for a family skate day or come out to build a snowman.  The Park Committee will provide hot chocolate & cookies.  These events are subject to weather conditions so watch the parks web site for any changes or updates.
